The frequency at which you should replace your air condition air filter depends on a few factors: (1) the amount of run time the system experiences; (2) the type of filtration used; (3) the amount of filtration surface area; (4) the cleanliness of the house; (5) tightness of return duct (which should be inspected periodically)

These are a few important considerations.

If you live in Central Arizona, during the summer months a 1” disposable filter should probably be replaced about every 30 days. This will vary based on the size and quantity of the filtration used.

If you wish to upgrade your filtration, Hoffman Heating & Cooling offers high-quality 4” pleated filters. These high-quality filters are less restrictive than the average 1” filter and have approximately four times the filtration surface area, therefore allowing more air to freely pass through the filter while simultaneously collecting more dirt.

Running your system with overly restricted filtration whether due to a poor filter design or due to the fact that the filter is dirty, will dramatically decrease the capacity and efficiency of your cooling & heating system, which in turn increases energy consumption, and could also cause severe damage to your cooling & heating system.
